After Uttar Pradesh, two suspected ISI agents arrested in Mumbai
06 May 2017, 02:12 | Violet Powell
Police arrested one person suspected of being an ISI agent and have picked up another for questioning
The ISI operative arrested from Faizabad on Wednesday, Aftab had been in touch with Meherban Ali directly through an online messenger before and after the surgical strikes by India.
Aftab is believed to have received training from the ISI in Pakistan and was in touch with officials in the Pakistan High Commission, the spokesman said, adding that the ATS was in possession of strong evidence against him.
The two suspected ISI agents - Altaf Qureshi and Javed Iqbal - were arrested in a joint operation by the anti-terrorism squads of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra. Three ISI agents, one from UP and two from Mum bai, have been arrested in a day. He will be interrogated to extract information regarding the investigation, a UP ATS spokesman said. Now settled in Karachi, Meherban was among the six-member group that was pulled out of the Pakistan High Commission in November 2016 for being part of an espionage ring.
He had allegedly provided information about the army's movements and units in Faizabad, Lucknow and Amritsar.
Javed Naviwala has allegedly confirmed to the Maharashtra Anti-Terror Squad that he had asked hawala trader Altaf Qureshi to send 15,000 rupees after a call from Pakistan but he was given to understand that this money was to help a poor man meet his medical expenses.
During the duo's interrogation, it surfaced that Javed used to get instructions from Pakistan and at his behest Qureshi often deposited money in Aftab's account.
