Adrian Peterson remains an option for the Saints
25 April 2017, 12:55 | Kristen Gross
The New Orleans Saints and free-agent running back Adrian Peterson are negotiating a contract, sources told ESPN's Field Yates.
Peterson would be paid more than $3 million for the 2017 season if the reported deal is finalized.
The initial thought here is that the Vikings and Saints play in week 1 of the 2017 season at U.S. Bank Stadium.
Peterson, who entered the National Football League with Minnesota in 2007, is the leading rusher in team history with 11,747 yards.
Many have speculated that Peterson still being unsigned this far into free agency has had more to do with the running back's high asking price than anything else. But he also played only three games last season because of knee and groin injuries. The public outrage led to the Vikings suspending Peterson before he was eventually placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List, missing the entire season after just one game.
New Moto X (2017) with 4GB RAM leaked
It is powered by the Snapdragon 430 chipset and offers 16 GB of storage, which can be expanded with an additional 128 GB. The USB Type-C port and speaker grille are at the lower end of the phone while the 3.5mm audio jack is on the top.
Regardless of the final numbers, the salient point is that the seven-time Pro Bowler would earn less than incumbent starter Mark Ingram, who is coming off the most productive season of his career. Hightower, in his 30-year-old season with much less wear than Peterson, contributed 548 yards at 4.1 per carry.
New Orleans has 7 picks in this week's NFL Draft, including 5 in the first 3 rounds.
The New England Patriots appear unlikely to trade cornerback Malcolm Butler this offseason.
If not, the Saints will likely give Peterson a chance to prove his one talent in Sean Payton's offense. In order to get that deal, Butler looked outside of New England and found a possible suitor in the New Orleans Saints.
But at least five of the top 10 drafting teams badly need a better long-term answer at QB: Cleveland, San Francisco, Chicago, New York Jets and Buffalo.
