UC Berkeley Bans Ann Coulter – But She Plans to Speak Anyway!

Ann Coulter waves to the audience after speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington. Coulter's planned appearance at the University of California Berkeley on April 27 has been can

Controversial conservative pundit Ann Coulter's appearance at University of California Berkeley has been cancelled after fears of riots returning to the school.

An April 12 appearance by conservative writer David Horowitz also was canceled, after university police said that event would have to be scheduled midday and away from the heart of the UC campus, again because of security concerns.

Due to threats of violence from leftist groups, the University of California-Berkeley has canceled Ann Coulter's speech scheduled for later this month.

In a letter to Berkeley College Republicans, who invited Coulter to speak, university officials said they were unable to ensure the safety of the speaker, audience members or protesters who would be at the April 27 event, according to a report by the Associated Press.

Coulter is slated to at the Stanislaus County Republican Central Committee's Lincoln Day Dinner fundraiser at Modesto Center Plaza on April 28.

"This is as clear-cut a case as it gets that public universities are using taxpayer dollars to shut down conservative speech, while allowing liberal speech only", Young America's Foundation proclaimed. "The topic of her speech was immigration". Called their bluff & they canceled anyway, ' Coulter tweeted. This comes just after UC Berkeley officials told UC Berkeley College Republicans and the Young America's Foundation that it could not accommodate Coulter's visit next Thursday after heightened security concerns following protests as recently as this past weekend.

Palestinian prisoners just launched a mass hunger strike
Israeli officials on the other hand alleged that the protesters were being led Marwan Barghouti for ulterior political motives. Israeli authorities argue administrative detention protects at-risk informants and is needed for the country's security.

Coulter says she will speak at Berkeley as planned.

"Yes, it was officially banned", Coulter told The Hollywood Reporter. We regret this outcome-especially given our unqualified support for our students' right to bring speakers of their choosing to the University, and our deep commitment to the values and principles embedded in the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Organizers of the event released their own statement Wednesday, expressing discontentment at the change in plans.

Dan Mogulof, a campus spokesman, was asked what would happen if Coulter shows up, and answered: "We will continue to do what is necessary to provide safety and security for the campus community and our neighbors". The groups putting on the event are not sharing where Coulter will speak, but said they are looking at several locations, including on campus. "These Antifa clowns are going to be their to take cheap shot at us". Activists on both the left and the right have used the city, and the school, as a symbol for First Amendment rights - and their limitations - in the new political climate.

"We learned about the invitation to Ms. Coulter by reading about it in the newspaper", university officials said.
