Verizon brings Nougat to Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5

15 April 2017, 01:46 | Dawn Berry

Sprint users tied to the Galaxy S6 or the S6 Edge are in luck as the carrier is now rolling out the latest operating system for the handsets.

When ready to update the device, make sure your phone has at least 50% battery power and is connected to the internet via Wi-Fi to avoid extra cellular charges.

Nougat updates have been coming hard and fast lately, so let us know if your device has received the Android 7.0 goodness down in the comments. To grab the update, simply head to your settings menu, then go into "About Device", and check for updates. Apparently all is not well with Galaxy S7 owners who have made the jump from Marshmallow to Android 7.0 Nougat. In fact, some of them felt like Samsung has insulted them by making them wait for the Nougat update despite the fact that the S7 is newer than the S6 and Note 5.

Sprint also has a good track record with regards to LG flagships, being the first to upgrade the LG G5 to Nougat and taking only around two months to get the LG G4 onto Marshmallow - months before some of the other carriers.

Galaxy Note 5: Not only are you finally getting Android Nougat, but Samsung is throwing in a few, additional software features. This update weighs in at 1.02 GB and also brings along the Android Security Patch for February 2017. There are now much better battery optimisations tools. Not only is it far bigger than a normal update, but it's modifying critical system files that the phone simply won't work without, and even outright replacing many of those files.
