Tales In Tech History: RIP Windows Vista

Microsoft bids farewell to Windows Vista with end of support

However, Vista was a beast that was too much for numerous consumer PCs on the market at the time.

The launch came after numerous delays and it was to be the successor for Microsoft's breakthrough and highly acclaimed operating system, Windows XP.

Even worse is that Vista users could potentially have to pay for two operating system upgrades: (one to Windows 7 and then one to Windows 10). The company promised to deliver cutting edge features as additional downloads for those who bought the most expensive version of the operating system but the company failed to deliver on this promise and only released a few applications they were lackluster at best.

If you still have Windows Vista on your PC, you will stop receiving Microsoft Security Essentials and if you already have them installed, you'll continue to receive antimalware signature updates for a limited time. In a blog post, the company explained that Vista customers will no longer receive "new security updates, non-security hotfixes, free or paid assisted support options, or online technical content updates from Microsoft".

According to pcworld.com, only about 0.78 per cent of Windows users use Vista.

Today's milestone for Windows Vista means that Microsoft will no longer offer any security or software patches for the OS.

Marshawn Lynch could be eyeing Patriots as possible destination
If Lynch does return, a new contract is likely needed. "And we'll see if the Saints are really willing to extend themselves". He will also turn 31 years old later this month, but he still has a lot to offer to the Patriots offense.

As of Tuesday April 11th, support for Windows Vista has ended. Windows Vista set the scene for Windows 7 to murder Windows XP for good, and for that reason alone, Vista gets 56 thumbs up from me.

Microsoft is urging Vista users to upgrade to Windows 10, if their PC can handle it. Continuing to use Vista-based machines will place you at increasing risk of attack.

The company announced it would end support for the operating system today, and force users to switch to a newer version or be vulnerable to viruses.

The takeaway from all of this: This is what happens when you refuse to upgrade to a current operating system.

Windows Vista also came with a new user interface which was labeled Windows Aero or the Aero Glass. It's survived by Windows 8, Windows 8.1, and a grandchild, Windows 10. With meatier alternatives out there, we can not fathom why anyone would want to stick with Vista (or just veggies), but more power to you.
