It was the first known security breach at the White House since Mr Trump took office almost two months ago.

The US Secret Service said the breach happened shortly before midnight on Friday.

Tran confessed to jumping the fence of the White House.

Brian said his brother had been "living in his vehicle and eating junk food" and additionally said he had been "a very good brother to me".

The suspect, identified in court documents as California resident Jonathan Tran, 26, is scheduled to appear in federal court on Monday after a judge on Saturday ordered him held without bond, a spokesman for the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia said.

The suspect then saw a Secret Service officer in uniform and went towards the South Lawn, the affidavit reads.

On the computer, the Secret Service said it found a letter addressed to Mr Trump discussing Russian hackers and saying that Tran had "information of relevance".

He was carrying a backpack and scaled a fence to get into the White House grounds, according to reports.

The intruder was arrested without incident and no hazardous materials were found in the backpack.

Another man wearing an American flag jumped the fence in November 2015.

The incident occurred at about 11:38 p.m. Friday while President Trump was at the White House, officials told Fox News.

Department of Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly was briefed on the incident, according to White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Several people have managed to trespass on White House grounds in recent years.
