TSA Warns Local Police About Its New Airport Pat-Downs

The Transportation Security Administration says it has made changes to how agents will perform pat-downs on travelers.

"I would say people who in the past would have gotten a pat-down that wasn't involved will notice that the [new] pat-down is more involved", TSA spokesman Bruce Anderson said.

At Denver International Airport, employees were notified last week that the searches "may involve an officer making more intimate contact than before".

The TSA, in a statement, said that a full pat-down "does not involve any different areas of the body than were screened in the previous standard pat-down procedure".

The change means will agents will follow a standardized pat-down procedure. Every single item out of my backpack, and they took the wand and they're swiping the wand with everything in the backpack, testing each one.

The change in protocol came after a 2015 study by the Department of Homeland Security revealed that the TSA failed to detect banned substances or weapons in 67 out of 70 tests administered by undercover teams, ABC reported. TSA requires all pat-downs to be conducted an officer of the same sex. It also ended a practice in which random passengers were selected and allowed through special lines that were designed for travelers who had qualified by advance background checks for expedited screening.

Pep Guardiola defends "amazing" Claudio Bravo display
The Super Eagles forward has not played for City since January 15, following the arrival of Gabriel Jesus from Palmeiras. There was sarcastic applause from some City fans when he saved Huddersfield's second shot on goal just before halftime.

The Bloomberg has reported that in the past, U.S. airport security workers opt to choose among the five different types of physical pat-downs when screening travelers at the check point.

The officers will focus on the body area that is highlighted by the security x-ray machine.

"To be patted down in a very uncomfortable position - not what I'm looking forward to", said traveler Susan Dawson.

"It's needed. Whatever TSA is going to do I'm in support of it. It includes the breasts, the buttocks, the groin area", stated TSA Regional Spokesperson, Mark Howell.

"When we had multiple ways of doing the pat-down search it was a little bit complex and depending on the individual there were some inconsistencies in how it was applied", said TSA Federal Security Director Aaron Batt.

But the agency does expect some passengers to consider the examination unusual.
